A Florida man finds human remains in a shallow grave

Human remains were found in a shallow grave Wednesday after a man said he made the surprising discovery while looking for a chicken. This chicken escaped from a courtyard in Sapodilla on Tuesday afternoon, taking its owner James to the empty lot next door. It was then that an object caught his attention. So James called the police and stood by and watched. WPBF 25 broke the news to James that his instincts were right. Police said they were human skeletal remains buried inches below the surface and he reacted by saying, “It’s weird you know. I never expected that thing in the back of my house.” The remains were located near 14th Street and Sapodilla Avenue. Now, within walking distance of his home, authorities say they have found almost all the bones of an adult who had been there for a few years. Mike Jachles with West Palm Beach Police addressed the media on Wednesday.

“(It is) too early to tell the sex of the skeletal remains or whether there has been trauma or something. That will be determined during our next ongoing investigation,” Jachles said.
