Within a month, the music video had been viewed over 87,000 times online. And the first clip, in which the singer first teased the tune, has amassed over 260,000 views on TikTok.

In an exclusive interview with theSun, the singer talks about her new musical success and the inspiration behind it We’re going up.

Congratulations on the release of We’re going up! What’s it like to switch from TikTok to music?

“Honestly, it feels natural. I’ve always competed since I was 14, especially in high school. I’ve always made covers too and I post them online like on YouTube and stuff.

“So being in the music industry isn’t really new to me, especially when my mom is also a singer in the industry. So, it’s not really new to me. But the new thing is that I’m signed to Universal Music Malaysia, which is definitely amazing to be on the team.”

Were you nervous about the release?

“Yes. I was really nervous because I’ve actually been single before, but that was just myself. Although it felt exciting at the time, I didn’t feel the excitement as much as I did, We’re going up. That’s because this is my first single done professionally.

“It’s under Universal Music Malaysia, which is definitely like the pinnacle where I’m like, ‘Oh god, that’s amazing.’ And so I was nervous about releasing it. And another fact that made me nervous was that I co-wrote the song with my producer, Bryan.

“And the lyrics and the song are something I can relate to because that’s actually where I was when I wrote it We’re going up. So posting something you’re dealing with felt like I was sharing a secret. So, that was exciting, but it all went through and now it’s good.”

what is We’re going up all about?

We’re going up is basically all about a complicated friendship. It’s like a love and hate relationship. It’s one of those relationships where you’re in a good place with someone and you act like you’re dating and in love, but at the same time you don’t know what you are. As if it were very complicated. So basically that’s what the song is about.”

What inspired the melody and lyrics?

“There’s a part in the song that says, ‘I’m so blue. I feel crazy for loving you but I don’t know how to try. When that happened, I thought at some point, should I make this sad or happy?

“But I’m the kind of person where no matter how sad or heartwarming or heartbreaking or heartbroken the lyrics are, I still want to take it at an upbeat pace. really getting people excited when they hear it.

“So when we came out with a tune, I thought we had to do something upbeat. As for the lyrics, I was thinking of writing about a situation I could relate to, which of course is the complicated love-hate friendship.

are you still in this phase

“Well, honestly, I sort of got over it. Yes, I’ve finally cleared things up. When the song came out, the person actually said, “Woah, okay, you literally wrote a song about me. It’s crazy that you tell your story to the whole world. That’s crazy! ‘”

what are you hoping for We’re going up convey something about you to the audience?

“I really hope We’re going up would help listeners get to know me better and know that I have many stories to tell. And I really wish they knew how I do my songs. That’s because it’s not just based on some random song that I just sing or some random beat.

“It’s actually something I know people always want to relate to. So I wish whenever they want to relate to something they can go to my music and relate to it.
