Pelosi visits Taiwan | Armstrong Economics

Speaker Nancy Pelosi landed in Taiwan on Tuesday night despite warnings from Washington and Beijing. The nature of her journey was so secret that she did not fit into her official itinerary. Now, the true nature of her visit is coming to light. “We are taking this trip at a time when the world has to choose between autocracy and democracy,” Pelosi said. “We cannot stand by while the CCP continues to threaten Taiwan and democracy itself,” Pelosi said in a statement. “Our delegation’s visit to Congress should be seen as an unequivocal statement that America is with Taiwan, our democratic partner, while defending itself and its freedom.”

His statements blatantly ignore the One China policy and almost confirmed that the US would support Taiwan if China invaded. In fact, his tone was so energetic that he seemed to be pushing Taiwan to break away from China. China did not shoot down its plane as speculated by some Chinese commentators, but it showed military muscle by conducting military exercises near the Taiwan Strait Before Pelosi has arrived. China doesn’t want a war, but will they be pushed into a war?

The nature of Pelosi’s visit has finally been revealed. He will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen on Wednesday, and some media outlets report that he intends to meet activists who are outspoken about human rights abuses in China. Pelosi seems to be pushing the nation to free itself from One China politics. One wonders whether Washington publicly expressed dismay while secretly supporting Pelosi’s monumental journey. China has already punished Taiwan by banning it from exporting 100 food items, which will surely harm Taiwanese fishermen and farmers. They are probably calculating their next move against the United States. Expect tensions between the US and China to reach new heights, all because of Nancy Pelosi.
