Local telecommunications companies get Ookla’s approval

Ookla awarded Smart Communications Inc., PLDT Inc. and Converge ICT Solutions Inc. with separate laurels for coverage, speed and customer rating respectively.

In its latest Speedtest Awards, Ookla claimed that Smart has the best network coverage for the first half of 2022, achieving a coverage score of 794, beating the 732 points of competitors Globe Telecom Inc. and the 363 points of Dito Telecommunity Corp. .

The coverage score captures both the number of locations where an operator offers service and the quality of service at each location. Ookla added that of the Smart subscriber scans, a total of 99% had general service, while 90.8% had 4G service.

“This new quote not only reinforces the superiority of Smart’s network, but also reflects our strong commitment to continually improve our network so that we can offer a world-class mobile experience to our customers,” said Francis E. Flores , SVP and Head of Consumer Business Group z individual.

He added: “Having the best mobile coverage means that our nationwide subscribers can truly rely on Smart to connect online and achieve more in our fast-paced, hyper-connected world, be it for work, school, e-commerce, social media or entertainment”.

Ookla also named PLDT the winner for its Fastest Fixed Network Award for the first half of 2022. To win this award, PLDT achieved a speed rating of 77.91, with maximum download speeds of 210.83 Mbps and speeds of maximum uploads of 234.21 Mbps.

Converge fell behind at 68.91 points, followed by Globe at 43.39 points and Sky Broadband, 39 points.

Finally, Converge was named the highest rated landline provider in Ookla’s latest report. He got a score of 3.5 points. Globe finished second with 3.4 points, PLDT with 3 points and Sky with 2.8 points.
