‘It’s like a hurricane out there’: Intense Rain Lashes Northeast New Jersey

A thunderstorm brought heavy rain and moderate flooding to Howell Township, New Jersey on the evening of Friday, August 5. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning and severe thunderstorm warning for the region on Friday, predicting strong winds and possible hail, and water build-up on the roads. John Napoli, a resident of Howell, shared footage of intense rainfall that he said looked like a hurricane. According to his personal precipitation tracker, just over four inches of rain fell in his area and “significantly overflowed” a nearby stream. “Well, this is a way to end a drought,” Napoli wrote on Twitter.
