Israel, Gaza militants exchange fire, approach war

The bombings rained down on both Israel and the Gaza Strip on Friday as tensions in the region peak.

The exchange began after Israel killed a Palestinian jihadist in a targeted counter-terrorist attack.

According to reports from the Israeli Defense Forces, six sites were hit by fighter planes and armed drones on Friday afternoon, killing Tayseer Jabari, the senior Palestinian Islamic Jihad commander of the terrorist group’s northern division of Gaza.

In Gaza, the Hamas-run health ministry reported that at least five other people were killed in the strikes, including a five-year-old girl.

The skies over southern and central Israel glowed with rockets and interceptors from Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system.It was not immediately clear how many rockets had been fired and there were no immediate reports of Israeli casualties.

A joint statement by Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid and Defense Minister Benny Gantz said the operation’s goal was to eliminate the “threat to Israel’s citizens and civilians living adjacent to the Gaza Strip, as well as targeting terrorists and their sponsors “.
