Fires in Spain’s Sierra de la Culebra mountains grow to 25,000 hectares

Several communities in northwest Spain were evacuated as a major fire grew to over 25,000 hectares on June 18, fire authorities said. According to the authorities of Castile and Leon, strong winds with gusts of up to 70 km / h helped push the fire north. On Saturday, the fire forced the evacuation of the municipalities of Melgar de Olleros de Tera, Calzadilla de Tera and Pumarejo de Tera. The fire was burning in the Sierra de la Culebra mountain range in the Spanish region of Castile and León. This video posted on Twitter shows a smoke tower rising from the fire site near Otero de Bodas, the regional government said. The area had been evacuated due to the threat of fire.
