THE latest artificial intelligence (AI) Mission Impossible film has done the impossible by scaring US president, Joe Biden.
Biden chose to watch the Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, presumably for escapism, but instead found himself getting spooked by the film’s villainous AI, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
“If he hadn’t already been concerned about what could go wrong with AI before that movie, he saw plenty more to worry about,” Biden’s chief of staff, Bruce Reed, told the AP.
The film features an AI called “the Entity” that, after gaining sentience, destroys a Russian submarine and threatens the global intelligence community.
Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and his team would spend the entire film trying to get the override codes for the Entity’s programming, all while the AI uses technology to digitally manipulate videos and voices as it outwits the team.
Reed claimed that the “voice cloning” in the film worried the 80-year-old president.
“He saw fake AI images of himself and his dog. He saw how it could make bad poetry. And he’s seen and heard the incredible and terrifying technology of voice cloning, which can take three seconds of your voice and turn it into an entire fake conversation.”
On Oct 30, Biden signed an executive order that seeks to ensure “safe, secure and trustworthy” AI.
