He’s the dancing jockey who has become a social media sensation, thanks to his groovy moves around the stables.
But South Australian hoop Sairyn Fawke is also as hardworking as they come.
Known as “The Forklift”, Fawke has saddle and will travel.
He lives in Adelaide but since the start of the month has ridden at off-the-beaten track places such as Broken Hill and Wentworth (on Melbourne Cup day) in NSW, Wycheproof in north western Victoria as well as plenty of South Australia.
He estimates that in the last two months he has clocked up more than 15,000km in his car, driving to ride at race tracks at all points of the compass.
“I just drive everywhere, I go wherever I get some good support,” Fawke said.
“I reckon in the last two months I have racked up more than 15,000km driving to the races.
“With spring racing, it’s been a busy time of year for the country tracks.
“I pretty much drive by myself, there was one day recently I drove through three states in one day, my car is like my office.
“I don’t have a big stable behind me, I just ride for a lot of the smaller trainers.
“I don’t mind the driving, I listen to music and have a bit of ‘me time’.
“It keeps me busy and I love it.”
Fawke was born in The Philippines but came to Australia when he was young.
He considers Brisbane to be his home but Adelaide is his adopted home after moving there in 2017, initially to take up an apprenticeship with Tony McEvoy.
Fawke, 33 has become popular off the track, thanks to his dance moves around the stables which he posts on his Instagram account which has more than 20,000 followers.
It’s all a bit of fun and he says it helps market himself as jockey.
“People know me as a fun and bubbly sort of fella,” Fawke said.
“I’m not one of the top jockeys, but I have got a lot of followers on Instagram.
“A lot of them are there for the dance moves.
“Whenever I go around the place, people ask me if I’m going to do a dance for them.
“People know me for that.
“It’s just a bit of fan to brand myself, I have got a lot of owners who I ride for who really love it.”
Fawke, who has 444 career winners, is coming off a riding double at Naracoorte on Sunday.
