Sky News host Chris Kenny says the Labor government’s controversial misinformation bill is “an entirely horrible idea” because of the power that it gives the Australian Communications and Media Authority over social media posts.
According to The Australian, during COVID, the federal government tried to have social media companies take down more than 4,000 social media posts that the government determined were misinformation, with many posts containing factual information and reasonable arguments.
“I think scrap the bill – an entirely horrible idea,” Mr Kenny told Sky News Australia.
“If anybody has any doubts about how bad this legislation is, think about what happened during COVID.
“We had terrible secret censorship in this country during COVID.
“You can’t give that same power to an even broader array of government authorities.”
