Labor ‘purposefully targeted’ cost of living relief in response to petrol prices

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says his Labor government “purposefully targeted” cost of living relief to combat rising petrol prices.

He addressed that many Australians are “doing it tough” due to the cost of living crisis during Question Time on Monday.

“We inherited, of course, when we came to office, the decision of the former government they put in their budget in March of 2022 that they had a limited time of a pause on fuel indexation,” Mr Albanese said.

“They put that limited period on there because when it comes to the issue of petrol indexation, one of the concerns that is there in the economy and including from the Reserve Bank, that feeds into interest rates is how much cash there is in the economy as well.

“We have purposefully targeted cost of living relief.”
