The Australian left is happy to “loudly and proudly” celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year, not Australia Day, according to Sky News host Rita Panahi.
“Now let’s talk about the hypocrisy of the Australian left from the activists and politicians to football clubs and even the big corporates,” she said.
“They’re all happy to come out loudly and proudly to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year but not our national day, not Australia Day.”
Ms Panahi pointed to an example of this in North Melbourne Football Club after they posted a ‘Happy Lunar New Year’ message on the social media platform X.
“Happy Lunar New Year to all who celebrate! Wishing you a safe, healthy and happy year ahead,” the post read.
However, on Australia Day, the club posted to X: “We recognise the pain and sadness many First Nations Peoples and the broader community may be experiencing at this time. We will be stronger together when we can celebrate the history of the country we call home, on a date that unites us.”
“Yeah, it’s called Australia Day, and it’s on January 26, you self-loathing simpletons,” Ms Panahi said.
