Wife of Julian Assange calls on govt to intervene in his case

The wife of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is calling on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to intervene in her husband’s case.

There are concerns the Australian father of two could be extradited from the UK to a US military prison within days.

Mr Albanese has raised Mr Assange’s case with US President Joe Biden during his trip to Washington, but the Assange family wants the government to make a formal request for his release.

The 52-year-old Australian has been detained in London for almost five years, 13 years after the publication of top-secret military documents.

The US Justice Department alleges that Mr Assange violated the Espionage Act by publishing these classified documents.
